Metal Finish Options

Stokes Badges’ provides a wide range of finishes and will work closely with you to create the best result for your logo, emblem or design. Typical metal finishes are a bright gold, silver (nickel), bronze (copper) or black nickel plating. Finishes like antique or sandblasting with polish help create extra contrast when there is no colour. Alternatively we add colours using enamel paint with an epoxy or baked finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum number of key tags that I need to order?

Technically there is not a minimum but it can depend on the material and making method due to set-up costs.

Usually we find 100 to be a reasonable starting quantity.

Talk to us about your requirements and we can provide options and recommend the best way to meet your needs.

How is the price determined?

Each quote is calculated based on your design requirements. Our best price is provided for each job.

The price is determined by the following factors:

  • Size – as measured at the longest part of the key ring.
  • Decoration – eg. soft enamel with epoxy or hard enamel.
  • Number of enamel colours – the more colours, the higher the price.
  • Finish – eg. an antique finish may increase the cost.
  • Unique numbering – individual numbering on each key ring will incur an additional cost.
  • The Die – The die costs vary depending on whether it is a one or two sided key ring or whether it is two or three dimensional design.
  • Quantity – quantity discounts apply. The higher the order quantity, the lower cost per key ring.
  • Delivery – Key rings can be collected from our Riverwood, NSW premises. Alternatively, delivery charges incur an additional fee.

For new customers 50% of order value is payable at time of order, and balance is payable 14 days after delivery, or on terms as otherwise agreed in writing.

What are Stamped Key Tag?

A stamped key tag involves cutting a reverse image into a steel master die then stamping that image into a press to produce the key ring.

Creating the key tag colours

In the case of a stamped coloured key tag, raised metal borders define the design and separate the coloured areas. The colour is added by hand with soft enamel paints. For a glossy look, the key ring can be finished with a clear epoxy coating.

Metal Finishes

Key ring designs can be created in silver, brass or copper. Choose an antique finish for a more prestigious appearance and to highlight the images, particularly in three-dimensional designs.

Stamp the back of the key Tag

Make maximum use of your key tag by stamping a message on the back. Key rings can also be produced with consecutive numbers stamped on the back, which is useful for identifying members or keeping track of keys.

What are Die Cast Key Tags?

The die cast process allows Stokes Badges to produce designs that are not possible or economical by the stamping method.

Diecast keyringsKey ring designs best suited to die cast:

  • Designs incorporating cut through wording or images
  • Three dimensional logos
  • Thicker designs (stamped designs are made up to 2mm thick whereas die cast can be 4 to 5mm thick)

Use the back of the key ring

Make maximum use of your key ring by incorporating a message on the back. Key rings can also be produced with consecutive numbers on the back, which is useful for identifying members or keeping track of keys.

What are Soft-i (PVC) Key Tags?

Soft-i key tags are made from strong, flexible PVC. Key ring designs can be made in any size or shape and up to 3 to 4mm thick. They are a new, innovative handmade product.

Accurate logo and image reproduction

Your key tag can be created with a high degree of detail through the use of colours and cut lines, which means your logo or character can be accurately reproduced. Key ring designs can be enhanced by the use of multi-levels and can be double sided or three dimensional.

Print on the back of the key ring

Make maximum use of your key tag by printing a message on the back. This can be added in a scratch resistant ink.

What are Printed Key Tags?

Printed key tag production involves printing an image onto a metal shape of your choice.

Versatile logo and image reproduction

Printed key tags are more versatile than stamped key rings. Colours, fonts and logos can be accurately matched without restricting the number of colours.

Shorter key ring production time

Lead times for the printed key tag process are generally shorter than other key ring manufacturing methods. In some cases there is no die or plate set-up charge.

Use the back of the key tag

Make maximum use of your key ring by printing or stamping a message on the back. Key rings can also be produced with consecutive numbers on the back, which is useful for identifying members or keeping track of keys.

Design Hints

Free Design Advice for your Key Tags

Top tips for designing Key Tags:

  • Simple and bold design. Remember less is usually better.
  • Choose contrasting colours. Dark enamel colours look best with bright gold or silver (nickel) plating. If your colours are predominantly light then you may consider black nickel plating for the raised metal areas.
  • Choose any reasonable size and shape. Don’t restrict your imagination – almost anything is possible!

Enamel Colours

A wide range of colours is available. Keep in mind that lettering and outlines are nearly always raised metal with enamel colours to fill the recessed areas. Generally up to four or five colours are available as standard with Stokes Badges’ key rings. Extra colours are available at a slightly higher price.

Finishes

Your key tag can be made in a choice of gold, nickel (silver colour), bronze or black nickel metal plating. Choose a bright or antique-style finish.

Unique Numbering

Stokes Badges can provide unique numbering on each key tag, if required. This may be useful for identifying members or keeping track of keys.

How is the size determined?

The size for pricing is expressed in millimetres as the longest 1 way measurement – e.g. if the key ring is 40mm long and 20mm wide the size would be 40mm.
